Wild Whiskey Way
Introduction: Peter White
Peter White is a Whiskey Consultant with over 15 years’ experience in the whiskey industry. Peter is based in Dingle Co. Kerry, and has a wide range of knowledge of whiskies from all around the world. He has travelled the world, from Jura to Japan and from Dingle to Denali, visiting bars, distilleries, bodegas and cooperages, conducting and hosting tastings and meeting many people along the way who have helped him to build a vast knowledge of whiskies from the grain to the glass. He has attended the world famous Feis Ile whiskey festival on Islay several times and also the Highland Whiskey Festival. Peter has studied at the Midleton Whiskey Academy and the Dingle Whiskey School. He is also an official taster for the Irish Whiskey Awards and the Blas na hÉireann Food and Drink Awards which are held annually.
Peter was a founder member of the Irish Whiskey Society in Dublin in 2009 and was President of the society in 2016 & 2017, and during his tenure had the now famous (and rare) Marrowbone Lane bottled for the society. Peter brought professional whiskey tasting sessions to Dingle in 2013 and, subsequently, founded a chapter of the Irish Whiskey Society in the town in 2016 facilitating monthly tastings to a local membership of over 50 people.
Peter was the driving force behind The Whiskey Bar in Dick Macks Pub, Dingle, and, since its inception in 2012, this wonderful venue has won the coveted “Irish Whiskey Bar of the Year” award four times. Utilising his contacts in the Irish whiskey industry, Peter has initiated collaborations between Dick Macks Brewhouse and several distilleries, and in the process releasing very special, unique, one-off single cask strength whiskies, including the first ever official Dick Macks bottle and is responsible for the distribution of this whiskey. He is now the curator of all things whiskey in the pub. Peter was a regular contributor to Irish Whiskey Magazine, the Stories and Sips Blog, and has contributed to The Whiskey Chats Podcast.
Peter won Irish Whiskey Bartender of the Year at Belfast Whiskey Week 2024. Recently, Peter presented a selection of Irish whiskey to an audience of whiskey lovers at Whiskey and Alement, Melbourne, Australia.
“Peter has been centre stage in bringing a greater depth and breath to the Irish Whiskey offering in the South West most especially Kerry and Cork. Wild Whiskey Way is a further deepening of the relationship between the people of the South West and great Whiskey”.”
— BERNARD WALSH, Walsh Whiskey
'Peter puts his heart and soul into everything he does so I know this new business is going to be brilliant. We share many happy memories by our mutual love and respect of each and every distillery, whether it be here on Islay or in Peter’s homeland in Ireland.'
Mary McGregor Bruichladdich distillery
“The whole Irish whiskey industry knows that Peter White is a firebrand. In his drive, in his integrity, in his knowledge and curiosity, and in his earnest love for the authentic spirit of the Irish distilling heritage, Peter has been a force for good for many years. His tastings come from a place of palpable love for whiskey and a genuinely generous hope to share what’s out there with anyone in the room.”.”
— FIONNAN O CONNOR, Author of A Glass Apart and forthcoming Creatùr
"Peter White is not only a whiskey expert, he is a fine man and a brilliant communicator. He has hosted me several times in both Dublin and Dingle, in his role as President of the Irish Whiskey Society - the trips were all memorable! I can recommend him whole-heartedly.”
— Charles Maclean, M.B.E. Master of the Quaich
"Peter on his own has done more to promote Irish whiskey than any other individual I know. He does not have a big brand with a large marketing budget behind him, yet on his own he has done an immense amount of work to help spread the appreciation of Irish whiskey."
